This is our actual route across the U.S. Of course the map is too small to show any real detail, but by the time we are done. Including side trips and stuff like that, we would have covered just about 5,000 miles on the bike. From the time we leave Molokai on May the 8th, till the time we get back on August 10th, we will have traveled over 12,000 miles.

My Trans-Am bound buddy. This used to be my ultra light XC machine. In it's prime, it tipped the scales at just under 19 pounds including slime in the tires. Right now, it's a hefty 24.5. We will be pulling trailers on our trip with everything we need. We estimated a 40 to 45 pound load.

This is my favorite ride. I've had this frame for 12 years and have upgraded it four times. Currently running full Dura Ace. 16.25 pounds as is.

My sub 14 pound speed machine. Carbon fiber everything. All for less than $8,000. If Lance were to show up, this would be my bike of choice.

This is Fern and I at my 35th high school reunion in May of 2008. Only about a dozen or so of us showed up, but we had fun.

The anticipation is growing.

Aloha everyone. I hope the new year has been treating you all as well as it has been for me. my training is going well. Last year I logged close to 7,000 miles by bike. Much more than my average of just under 5,000. This past January alone, I put in 586 mile on the bike, and only about 40 on my truck. February promises to be even better. Having a goal to aim for really helps the psychy as far as mental disiplin goes.
It's February the 10th, 2009. And it's less than three months before our Trans-America bike ride. Lisa and I have been busy training and planning all the details for this once in a life time adventure. Little by little we have been collecting the things that we need. Our bikes have been over hauled, and in top working order. This weekend, we will be going on a test run here on Molokai. I plan to load up my bike and ride to Lisa's place down at Kenanikai, and from there ride with her fully loaded to meet Fern up at Maunaloa. There Fern will drive my truck with her stuff, along with the dog, and meet Lisa and I down at Hale O Lono. From there we will cross the fence and make our way to Kanalukaha beach where we will set up camp for the night. We will try to mimic what we will encounter on our journey. Hopefully no one will be there, since there are not very many good spots in that area. This way we will be able to determine what works and what we need to improve on. It may take more than one or two tries, but we should have a pretty good idea of what to expect by departure date.
I will be keeping you all up to date by way of this blog and e-mails to my regular contacts. Aloha for now, Ted.
