Aloha to you all on this windy Sunday morning.
It has come to my attention, that some of you may not know who Lisa is. That is her in the middle, along with her mom and dad. I thought this would be a good time to share Lisa with you. Lisa is quite possibly one of the nicest person you will ever meet. I'm serious, she is a true friend. In this day of false images, high ego, drugs, peer pressure, and the: I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine mentality. It is not often that you meet someone totally by chance, who is both trust worthy, and genuine as humans go.
I first met Lisa back in 1998, she had just moved to Molokai from the mainland after a visit here a few months earlier. Her visit to Molokai earlier, stemmed from a vacation trip to Maui, where she found the pace and lifestyle not anything like she had expected. While on Maui, she heard about Molokai, this seldom visited, out of the main stream, laid back place that had a certain appeal to her. So with a whim, she decided to take a chance and visit. Her short stay on Molokai had impressed upon her heart a sense of belonging (It's hard to explain, but most of us had at one time or another experienced such a feeling). Upon returning to her home, she immediately gave her boss her two weeks notice, and told him that she was moving to Molokai.
With no friends or family here, or even a clue as to what she was getting herself into, she dove right in. Once here, her first order of business was to find a place to stay, and a job. She filled out as many applications as she could, and immediately landed a position at the Molokai Ranch as a Camp Coordinator under the supervision of my girl friend Fern. Now, all of you who know Fern, knows she is not an easy boss to please. Anyway, professionalism over shadowed their personality traits, and they got along well, and eventually became close friends till this very day. From Camp Coordinator, she hurdled herself up the ladder to Activities Director, then Department Manager, then Human Resource Manager. By this time the Ranch was getting kind of shaky, so she applied for, and got a job as a time share and vacation rental manager where she is today. To save time, I didn't mention that in the mean time she also was in charge of the crew aboard a large cruise line. Lisa has been here ever since.
If you happen to bump into Lisa, let her know who you are and that you are supporting her and to take good care of Ted.
